Muslims press U.N. for truce in Lebanon

Where the hell was the Muslim press when bombs were being dropped on Israel, before they took offense? Screw emmm...they got what they asked for.

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia - The Islamic world's largest organization of countries demanded on Thursday that the U.N. implement an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon and investigate what it called flagrant human rights violations by Israel.

Leaders of key countries in the 56-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference, including Iran, Indonesia, Pakistan and Turkey, voiced strong support for the Lebanese people "in their legitimate and courageous resistance against the Israeli aggression."

"We demand that the United Nations Security Council fulfill its responsibility ... by deciding on and enforcing an immediate and comprehensive cease-fire," the OIC said at an emergency summit.

The U.N. Human Rights Council should launch "a full investigation into these criminal acts perpetrated by Israel," which include the killing of civilians and destruction of homes in Lebanon, the declaration added.

"We hold Israel responsible for the loss of lives and suffering ... and demand that Israel compensate (Lebanon) and its people for the losses sustained resulting from Israeli aggression," the leaders said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the solution to the Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel. He also called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

"Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate ceasefire must be implemented," Ahmadinejad said, according to Iranian television.

Malaysia, which chairs the OIC, rallied presidents, prime ministers and policy-makers of 17 Muslim-majority nations for one-day talks to articulate their opposition to Israel's attacks in Lebanese and Palestinian territories.

"This war must stop, or it will radicalize the Muslim world, even those of us who are moderate today," said Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who leads the world's most populous Muslim country. "From there, it will be just one step away to that ultimate nightmare: a clash of civilizations."

Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said in a video statement to the conference that more than 900 Lebanese had been killed and 3,000 injured in more than three weeks of Israel-Hezbollah fighting. He said 1 million Lebanese had been displaced.

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi called for a U.N.-backed force to stabilize the Israeli-Lebanon border. Muslims "must show preparedness to contribute forces for peacekeeping operations under the United Nations banner," Abdullah told the conference.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said hostilities must be halted "before the spiraling violence engulfs the entire region and kills the hope for a durable and just peace in the Middle East."

Lebanon's Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh said his country's "sole request is a comprehensive cease-fire."

"After that, there will be a large margin to tackle issues between Israel and Lebanon," Salloukh said.

Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas controlling southern Lebanon have been locked in fierce fighting for three weeks, resulting in hundreds of Lebanese civilian casualties.

This past weekend, the White House sent the Presidential advisor and Chief of Staff, Karl Rove, to participate in the National Council of The Race (La Raza) - the largest Hispanic entitlement advocacy group in the nation. In order to fully understand the influence of La Raza, it's important first to understand their agenda, and this Human Events exclusive by Rep. Charlie Norwood (R, GA) is as good a place to start as any:

Behind the respectable front of the National Council of La Raza lies the real agenda of the La Raza movement, the agenda that led to those thousands of illegal immigrants in the streets of American cities, waving Mexican flags, brazenly defying our laws, and demanding concessions.

Key among the secondary organizations is the radical racist group Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, or Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan (MEChA), one of the most anti-American groups in the country, which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to carve a racist nation out of the American West.

Rep. Norwood goes into further detail about La Raza, MEChA, and the Spiritual Plan for Aztlan, which we've covered in the Blogburst previously, but the most chilling section is excerpted below:

"For La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada."

That closing two-sentence motto is chilling to everyone who values equal rights for all. It says: "For The Race everything. Outside The Race, nothing."

If these morally sickening MEChA quotes were coming from some fringe website, Americans could at least console themselves that it was just a small group of nuts behind it. Nearly every racial and ethnic group has some shady characters and positions in its past and some unbalanced individuals today claiming racial superiority and demanding separatism. But this is coming straight from the official MEChA sites at Georgetown University, the University of Texas, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Colorado, University of Oregon, and many other colleges and universities around the country.

MEChA was in fact reported to be one of the main organizers of those street demonstrations we witnessed over the past [months]. That helps explain why those hordes of illegal immigrants weren't asking for amnesty -- they were demanding an end to U.S. law, period. Unlike past waves of immigrants who sought to become responsible members of American society, these protesters reject American society altogether, because they have been taught that America rightfully belongs to them.

MEChA and the La Raza movement teach that Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington State make up an area known as "Aztlan" -- a fictional ancestral homeland of the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America. As such, it belongs to the followers of MEChA. These are all areas America should surrender to "La Raza" once enough immigrants, legal or illegal, enter to claim a majority, as in Los Angeles. The current borders of the United States will simply be extinguished.

This plan is what is referred to as the "Reconquista" or re-conquest, of the Western U.S.

But it won't end with territorial occupation and secession. The final plan for the La Raza movement includes the ethnic cleansing of Americans of European, African, and Asian descent out of "Aztlan."

As Miguel Perez of Cal State-Northridge's MEChA chapter has been quoted as saying: "The ultimate ideology is the liberation of Aztlan. Communism would be closest [to it]. Once Aztlan is established, ethnic cleansing would commence: Non-Chicanos would have to be expelled -- opposition groups would be quashed because you have to keep power."

Ethnic cleansing, espoused by one of the largest and most influential student groups supported by La Raza - the same La Raza that Bill Clinton and Karl Rove are dallying with. Lest you still think this is a "fringe" group, despite all the evidence to the contrary, you should know that they are implementing their plans, in the face of mainstream America's somnolent tolerance. For instance, Art Olivier is a Libertarian running for Governor in California, and recently reported the following:

"My campaign headquarters received a package in the mail today from an unknown sender, where the return address should be, was a sticker of the Mexican flag. Inside was a Mexican flag and three pages of propaganda. The first page said the whites will soon go back to Europe, the blacks must go back to Africa and scribbled on the bottom was 'and f*** Asians too. We will take our land back through RECONQUISTA!'

The next two pages are El Plan de Aztlan. It starts off 'be warned Gringos' and goes into how the La Raza de Bronze will drive out the exploiters and declares independence of their mestizo nation. Under their economy goals is 'Land and realty ownership will be acquired by the community for the people's welfare.'

This movement is without a doubt racist and communist. Is this the same La Raza that Bill Clinton & Karl Rove spoke at?"

On September 16th, the day of Mexican independence, La Raza de Bronze, and all its affiliates, plans to stage yet more Chicano walk-outs of all schools and universities, and hope to sustain it to force a complete revision of the educational system. Considering that their much-touted "Day Without Latinos" was a total bust, it's unlikely that they can sustain such an activity for any length of time - though we can hope.

Wake up, Americans. This problem is not losing momentum, nor going away. In fact, it is rapidly gaining in credence and legitimacy, thanks to the White House's apparent endorsement of their activities.

Does this pesky Reconquista problem only affect the Southwestern United States? No, of course not. Consider that the two largest engines driving the entire American economy are California and Texas. Consider further that there is an open empathy between Reconquistas and Islamists. Visit the Voice of Aztlan to see for yourself how they rejoice in American deaths at the hands of terrorists worldwide, since it furthers their own cause of re-conquest. You can bet that La Raza's seditious activities will impact your wallet at the very least, and your entire way of life. Stay awake.

I am left without words in the barbaric killing of these two young men.

My thoughts and prayers are with their families tonight.

Heated discussion going on over at Novatownhall . Are those opposed to the illegal immigration now up for vote in the Senate hate mongers? Seems that is what some folks think.

I say bullshit. Americans are the kindest people on the face of the earth. This is OUR country and we are willing to share. What we are not willing to do is give away what takes Americans years to accomplish.

What really pisses me off is the amnesty that will be given to those using forged documents and phony social security numbers.

There is no real defense to illegal immigration and illegal documents. Both are punishable by law.

As we say in America........Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

Had a recorded call from my local Senator yesterday. He urged that Americans not back down on their objection to the proposed acceptance of illegals. Doing so will only allow congress and the senate to pass laws none of us are happy with.

Screw those trying to debate how illegals are being mistreated. Call your senator and tell them NO WAY!

Death Threats May Keep Class President From Graduation

LEVITTOWN, Pa. (June 6) - A deal is being negotiated that would allow a high school's class president to participate in Friday's graduation ceremony despite concern that he could be targeted by a gang.

Tyrone Lewis, 18, had been scheduled to be one of the speakers at the Truman High School commencement ceremony, but police were worried that he could be targeted by a gang from Trenton, N.J., because his sister had testified in a murder trial. Lewis had been barred from the ceremony.

Tyrone Lewis will NOT be attending graduation services and neither will more than a handful of other students set to graduate from Truman High. Most notably a friend of Tyrones. A young man who while riding in a car a few months after Tyrones sister testified in Bucks County Court against several gang members who were involved in a murder. Tyrones friend in the car with him was struck by gunfire. The police have never connected the shooting with the gang members. But the chances are gang members are responsible for Tyrones friend being paralyzed for life from the neck down.

Sure Tyrone is well known and liked in his community and high school. The facts however remain. The one responsible for him not attending graduation is his sister. She choose to become associated with this gang. Not the local police department not the community and not Tyrone.

Now Rev. Sharpton is involved. Calling the decision by police and school board members to not allow Tyrone to be a part of the ceremonies, racial. A way of keeping a black male student from recognizing his achievements.

Put the blame where it belongs Rev. Sharpton. Sometimes bad decisions come back full circle and touch those we love. Not only did Tyrones sisters decision affect him, but the entire community, especially Truman High graduating class of 2006.

As BLACK AND WHITE as some are trying to make this. Thanks Chief Mc Andrews of the Bristol Township Department and the Bristol Township school board for a well thought out decision.

Good luck to Tyrone in the future.

Sex discrimination suit against Billboard magazine settles during jury selection

NEW YORK — In a sensational lawsuit filed in 2004, two fired Billboard magazine editors accused their ex-bosses of creating an environment where sexual dalliances among employees were encouraged, erotic toys were put on display and "alliances" among minorities were considered a threat.

The two accused their bosses of retaliatory firing after they complained to human resources and then to Kilcullen about the "atmosphere of sexual and racist intimidation" against female and minority employees.

Specifically, the suit alleged that Schlager kept a green vibrator in plain sight on a shelf in his office that he often used to "intimidate" female employees. On at least three occasions, Chang claimed in the suit, Schlager removed the vibrator from the shelf and showed it to her.

Treat me like I'm black, sez Teddy's son

Fresh from rehab, Rep. Patrick Kennedy said yesterday he wants to be treated like an African-American from Washington if and when he gets charged for crashing his car on Capitol Hill.
Denying that he was drunk and or that he asked the Capitol Police for preferential treatment, Kennedy, a Rhode Island congressman, said he's prepared "in terms of bookings, in terms of mug shots, fingerprints, whatever they might have me do."

"It's what anyone else would have done to them if they were an African-American in Anacostia," Kennedy said in a shaky voice, referring to the mostly minority neighborhood in southeastern Washington.

Later, Kennedy fretted that "there are probably people who want to throw the book at me a little more to prove that they're not treating me special."

Oh for christ sake Patrick, get over it. What you need to come to grips with is your father is an asshole drunk and your mother is not much better. You grew up with a tarnished silver spoon in your mouth. Now it's time to put the past behind you, the blame where it belongs and become a real MAN. This country is not willing to carry another Kennedy on it's shoe string. And I somehow doubt you did any real rehab time. If you had you sure as hell wouldn't have this attitude. But you are right, you are no better than anyone else. To compare being arrested and charged, with being black is beyond belief! If you haven't noticed arrests are not race based.

When your ready to deal in reality and really get sober, give me a shout.

Foreword by Heidi at Euphoric Reality

From Spanish-speaking illegal workers, to angry tenured professors and arrogant politicians, we are hearing more and more tenets and demands from a movement called Reconquista. The movement, once dismissed as extreme racist rhetoric, has rapidly gained traction and momentum among millions of ill-educated illegal aliens and well-established Mexicans alike. Reconquista gives voice to the angry demands of present-day Mexicans who mistakenly think they have indigenous rights to the land of the Southwestern United States - which they claim was "stolen" by an imperialist American government. The centerpiece of their agenda is the mythical Aztlan.

In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its proud historical heritage but also of the brutal "gringo" invasion of our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the northern land of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers, reclaiming the land of their birth and consecrating the determination of our people of the sun, declare that the call of our blood is our power, our responsibility, and our inevitable destiny.

"From whence came our forefathers...?" Nothing could be further from the truth - not that the facts matter much in their efforts to further "La Raza" - or The Race. Using racially-charged arguments to batter at the traditional guilt mentality of Americans, proponents of Aztlan aim to "reconquer" the Southwestern United States as their due. Apparently, they fail to understand that the tribes of present-day Mexico never inhabited the Southwest U.S., nor for the most part did Mexicans themselves - it was mostly open land [frontier] except for northern Native Americans (as you will see below).

A manifest destiny has been embraced by many within mainstreamed advocacy groups in America such as La Raza, LULAC, and most commonly MECHa, the radical student organization which has specifically embraced the tenets of Atzlan. "Por La Raza todo, Fuera de La Raza nada," is translated as "For the Race, everything, for those outside of the Race, nothing." Though that singular statement seems to sum up the demands of today's angry illegal Mexican aliens, there is much more to their Plan to restore Aztlan:

Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans. We do not recognize capricious frontiers on the bronze continent

Love for our brothers makes us a people whose time has come and who struggles against the foreigner "gabacho" who exploits our riches and destroys our culture ... Economic control of our lives and our communities can only come about by driving the exploiter out of our communities, our pueblos, and our lands and by controlling and developing our own talents, sweat, and resources.

Education must be relative to our people, i.e., history, culture, bilingual education, contributions, etc.

Self-defense of the community must rely on the combined strength of the people ... For the very young there will no longer be acts of juvenile delinquency, but revolutionary acts.

A nation autonomous and free - culturally, socially, economically, and politically- will make its own decisions on the usage of our lands, the taxation of our goods, the utilization of our bodies for war, the determination of justice (reward and punishment), and the profit of our sweat.

So there is a Plan for Reconquista. But do these emotional and racial claims have any historical basis?

Clearing Up A Misconception About Reconquista

Introduction.

Spain conquered what was to become modern Mexico and part of the southwestern United States in 1521. Spanish rule lasted 300 years until 1821 when Mexico gained independence. Mexico ruled what is now part of the southwestern United States for a very, very short time. Mexico ruled Texas from 1821 until 1836, some 16 years. Mexico ruled California from 1821 until 1846, 26 years. Mexico ruled most of New Mexico from 1821 until 1848, 28 years, and the southern most portions of Arizona and New Mexico until purchased by the United States in 1853, 33 years. The United States began ownership of these territories in 1845 (Texas), 1846 (California), and 1848-1853 (New Mexico and Arizona). Thus the United States has owned this land since 1845-1853, 153-162 years.

The ownership has thus been: Spanish 1521-1821 or 300 years; Mexican 1821-36 to 1853 or 16 to 33 years; and American 1845-1853 or 154 to 162 years. Almost all development and modernization came under United States ownership. Please see Spain, Mexico, Texas, California, and New Mexico-Arizona for more details.

Comparison of Ownership Time and Development.

Spain owned the area for 300 years and operated it as a colony. The central area, and most developed part was around Mexico City with much of the current southwestern United States being the frontier, relatively undeveloped, and subject to Indian raids and predations. The situation was much the same in the very, very short period, 16-33 years, of Mexican ownership. With the United States ownership, 154 to 162 years, beginning as territories, exploration and development proceeded rapidly and modern civilization came with, or shortly after, statehood.

The Absurdity of Reconquista.

Whether by time of ownership or degree of development and civilization, Mexico had virtually no temporal or civil weight of authority in the southwestern United States. Mexico never really established military or civil control over the area and it was never really a normal part of Mexico, but was always the frontier with vast expanses of nearly unexplored and lightly inhabited regions far from Mexican rule and authority. So tenuous, unpopular, and corrupt was Mexico’s presence and claim to the areas, and the Mexican government so hated by American and Mexican pioneers alike, that they only lasted from 16 to 33 years.

Thus, Reconquista is another myth, promulgated for racist reasons (it is the spawn of Mexican supremacist groups such as La Raza - literally “the Race”) much as the Germans’ “Lebensraum”, or living space, was for the master race. And, Reconquista is equally racist and equally the deranged product of irrational hate groups.

Therefore, we can dismiss the concept of “Reconquista” as a racist, hate group concept that has no place in America, or in any other just and tolerant society or country. There is no need to give any credence whatsoever to the false and meritless claims of any moral attachment to territory by radical, racist groups. They are as phony as last year's bird's nest.

This totally disgusts me. A man risks his life in battle, volunteers and goes back again and again to Iraq, and he can't even visit his credit union at home to take some of his hard earned money out, without being insulted and subjected to ridicule.

Think about it. Go fight in a war, risk your life day after day, come home, go back and do it all over again, and then again. All for your fellow Americans that unfortunately includes moonbat jerks like the president of PowerNet Credit Union in Tampa, Florida, and some of his moonbat friends that are union retirees and members of the credit union. Until now, I didn't know that members of the Electricians Union were anti-military and anti-American. After all, failing to support the Commander in Chief and our troops during a time of war is just about as anti-American as you can get.

I received an email from Michael C., a man I know very well, and who has served as a "counter assault team commander" in Iraq (when all hell breaks loose - these guys fight their way in and bring people out) during more than one volunteer tour in Iraq, and who has already volunteered for another one of those "special" duty tours in Iraq. While presently home on leave, he stopped by his credit union last week to take care of some banking business, where he says that he was made to feel personally insulted, unappreciated, and held in contempt. His attention was drawn to a huge sign that basically said the credit union did NOT support his Commander in Chief and did not support him and the other men and women risking their lives every day in Iraq.

City To Immigrants: Hospitals Won't Ask Status
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK The city is distributing a letter meant to reassure immigrants that no one will question their legal status when they seek care at the city's public hospitals, health officials said.

The letter, in 11 languages, promises that public hospital employees will "keep confidential all information regarding your immigration status." If workers reveal the information, they could lose their jobs, Health and Hospitals Corporation president Alan Aviles writes in the note.

The letter's release follows reports from advocates that many undocumented immigrants are afraid of going to hospitals.

In one case, Aviles said Tuesday, a mother of three from Mexico refused to seek treatment for cervical cancer until an advocacy group intervened.

"There has to be a system of trust between health care providers and the patients," Aviles said.

Adam Gurvitch, director of health advocacy for the New York Immigrant Coalition, an umbrella group for more than 150 immigrant organizations, said the recent national debate over immigration had caused much confusion.

"It's really important for people to understand that nothing has changed," he said. "Health care remains a right for all people in America, for all immigrants, regardless of immigration status."

WHAT THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT SENATE BILL S. 2611

The new immigration bill (the most "sweeping reform in 50 years") S. 2611 is an amalgam of petty causes, illogical provisions, unstructured "solutions" with zero allowances for implementation, and self-contradictory language. Despite the mess, it was passed by self-righteous politicians who repeated the mantra "it's better than doing nothing." This from the same gaggle of do-nothings who outright rejected the House's law enforcement bill.

The Senate bill has our President's full support - this same bill is a derivative of one structured by Ted Kennedy and John McCain, and supported in full by the majority of Democrats. That alone ought to give one pause - President Bush, a Democrat?

Peggy Noonan says, "The disinterest in the White House and among congressional Republicans in establishing authority on America's borders is so amazing--the people want it, the age of terror demands it--that great histories will be written about it."

She opines that it is possible that..."the administration's slow and ambivalent action is the result of being lost in some geopolitical-globalist abstract-athon that has left them puffed with the rightness of their superior knowledge, sure in their membership in a higher brotherhood, and looking down on the low concerns of normal Americans living in America.

I continue to believe the administration's problem is not that the base lately doesn't like it, but that the White House has decided it actually doesn't like the base."

S. 2611 is less about law, and more about a weird, mutant agenda that melds licentiousness with an utter disregard for the end result. There are quite a few details in S. 2611 that the media has ignored and that the legislators would rather you know nothing about. Some were provisions germane to the original Kennedy-McCain bill or the pseudo revision of Hagel-Martinez, the rest are amendments that required separate votes to accept or reject. Here's what you need to know about the Senate's fiasco.

NATIONAL SECURITY

The Senate failed to pass an amendment that would've made amnesty contingent on effectively securing the border. Their priorities are completely opposite those of the American people, who have repeatedly made it clear that our borders must be secured before anything else. Furthermore, buried in Arlen Specter's manager's package, an amendment proposed by Dodd makes it mandatory for our government to consult with Mexico before taking any security action along the border, to include building any barrier or any enforcement along the border. This includes everything from federal troops, and state-mobilized National Guard, down to local law enforcement. In other words, even if a county sheriff mobilizes a posse to guard the border, he must clear it first through Mexico. This effectively gives the Mexican government veto power over our national security concerns!

We've heard a lot about the 6,000 National Guard troops, assigned to help with back-up duties in order to free up Border Patrol agents. Unfortunately, that will make only 500 additional agents available to apprehend and detain lawbreakers at the border.

The White House adamantly insists that Guard troops take no role in law enforcement, even though, so long as they are under the command of their governors—as they will be under the president’s proposal—they are allowed to do so. Republicans worry that when the Guard shows up for duty, Lou Dobbs’ cameras won’t be far behind, recording their impotence as they merely alert border agents to the whereabouts of entering illegal immigrants whom they must passively watch.

"Merely alert border agents to the whereabouts of entering illegal immigrants?" Sound familiar? The National Guard will, at most, be performing Minutemen duties. But wait! I thought the Minutemen were "vigilantes", Mr. President.

A tiny concession to border security was passed (Sessions, R-AL, amendment #3979) which allows for the increase of fencing and vehicle barriers along 370 miles of the southwest border of the United States. Unfortunately, existing hardware - including rancher's broken cattle fences - would be counted towards this paltry total.

What's most appalling is that a Democrat tried to push through an amendment (Leahy, D-VT, amendment #4117) that would revise the existing ban on granting refugee status to aliens who have provided "material support" to a terrorist organization! Fortunately, the motion was killed, but the fact that it was even considered and proposed is deeply troubling! Who can take these guys seriously?

EMPLOYMENT

Ted Kennedy passed an amendment (#4066) that makes it unnecessary for any illegal alien to have an employer attest that they are employed when petitioning for permanent legal residence, and "self-employment" is sufficient. Plenty of room for fraud and corruption there!

Now here's where the whole argument for "cheap labor/doing jobs Americans won't do" flies out the window. Barak Obama (D-IL, amendment no. 3971) passed an amendment that extends the Davis-Bacon Act's "prevailing wage" levels to all temporary guest workers. That puts them ahead of American workers, who have this protection only on federal job sites:

So guest-workers (but not citizen workers) must be paid Davis-Bacon wage rates for jobs in the private sector if their occupation is covered by Davis-Bacon. Presumably because Senate Democrats' union bosses thought this provision too modest, an amendment by Senator Barack Obama, approved by voice vote, extended Davis-Bacon wages rates to all private work performed by guest workers, even if their occupations are not covered by Davis-Bacon.

There goes their precious "cheap labor" - this provision will effectively price many guest workers out of the market. "Guest workers" will have legal status and visas that entitle them to real wages, overtime, deductions like unemployment and social security, and workers’ rights that legal workers now enjoy. Illegals will still be cheaper. Thus, twenty million illegals will be amnestied right out of the job market. Then what do we do with them when millions of new illegals flood into the country to take their place?

Now enter the litigation factor: foreign guest farm workers, admitted under the bill, cannot be "terminated from employment by any employer . . . except for just cause." In contrast, American ag workers can be fired for any reason.

TAXES

We've been assured time and again that newly amnestied "guest workers" will have to pay back taxes for the years that they lived here illegally - except that they really won't. A loophole in the new bill provides that only two years of back taxes will need to be filed. I don't know any American citizen that can just choose not to pay taxes for years! Additionally, the Senate has now provided for illegal aliens to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Our government will end up paying them!

SOCIAL SECURITY

Senator Ensign (R-NV) tried to remove the provision allowing illegal immigrants who receive legal status under the legislation to receive retro-active credit for Social Security benefits for time that they worked before receiving legal status. Arlen Specter killed it. The bill allows illegal aliens to receive Social Security benefits for the years that they worked illegally, even if they paid into Social Security under a false number or using a stolen identity! As an American citizen, if I were caught stealing someone's identity or forging documentation to avoid paying taxes, I'd go to jail. Not so illegal aliens! There are NO penalties for breaking those laws - only retro-active rewards. The longer they broke the law, the bigger the pay-off.

VOTING

Senator McConnell (R-KY) sought to add to the bill a requirement that all voters in federal elections be required to present a valid photo identification.

"It is nonsense to suggest that somehow a photo ID for one of our most sacred rights should not be protected by a requirement that is increasingly routine in almost all daily activities in America today," said the Kentucky lawmaker, second-ranking Republican.

But Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., likened the proposal to a poll tax or a requirement for voters to pass a literacy test. "Now is not the time and this is not the place to consider an amendment that may disenfranchise a million or more poor, minority, disabled, and elderly voters -- all of them American citizens," he said.

The proposal barely passed on a vote of 49-48, but unfortunately, it remains in limbo, evidently doomed by arcane rules now that the Senate has voted for cloture.

What the bill DOES provide for is a Bureau of the Census report to Congress on the impact of illegal immigration on the apportionment of Representatives in Congress. Of course, they need to count them - they are, after all, their newly bought electorate!

"GUEST WORKER" STATUS - NOT TEMPORARY AT ALL

Here is a perfect of example of self-contradictory language within the bill itself. The bill supposedly protects American workers by ensuring that new immigrants will not take away jobs. However, the bill's own definition of "United States Worker" includes temporary foreign guest workers, so the protection is meaningless.

Senator Kyl (R-AZ, amendment #3969) attempted to ensure that temporary workers stayed temporary by removing the bill's provision allowing guest workers to apply for permanent residency. The Senator from his own state, McCain, killed the amendment.

Also, thanks to Senator Santorum (R-PA) the bill expands the visa waiver program (Immigration and Nationality Act, Sect 217) to numerous additional countries. At this point, why even bother with a visa? Waive it all!!

BUDGET

Senator Allard (R-CO), concerned by the incalculable administrative costs of implementing S. 2611, raised a point of order about the budget. Such a move is allowed under the Budget Act when the projected cost of legislation under consideration exceeds a certain level. If the point of order is upheld, the legislation cannot proceed. The Senate irresponsibly waived the protective rules under the Budget Act, rejecting the point of order 67-31. Apparently, no cost is too great.

THE "GO BACK TO THE END OF THE LINE" FALLACY

Bush's former chief economic adviser Lawrence Lindsey blows the whistle on the "end of the line" fiction being used to sell the Bush/Senate immigration reform:

At present, there are hundreds of thousands of people around the world who are waiting to immigrate legally to America. They have already waited in line to get their first appointment, then to submit the paperwork, then been called back to answer more questions. And still, they wait. In places like Hong Kong, the waiting time may be as long as 15 years. Most of these people have relatives--cousins or grandchildren, for example--who live and work and pay taxes in America and even have become American citizens.

While the process isn't pretty, there is no good alternative. Permission to reside in America is very valuable....

Comprehensive immigration reform promises that people already in the United States illegally can apply for citizenship, but requires them to "go to the back of the line." But a key question is, the back of which line? The reform bill before the Senate doesn't require illegal immigrants to go back home--to, say, Hong Kong, to the end of the 10-to-15-year line there--to get a green card. Instead, it allows the current illegals to receive their green card immediately--having, in effect, jumped the line at the U.S. consulate abroad. Then, like other green card holders, they will be able to work here, collect government benefits like food stamps and Medicaid, and travel as freely as if they had a U.S. passport.

The line the current illegals will go to the back of is the citizenship line. Under the proposed law, current illegals, newly minted green card in hand, will have to wait six years, then get in line to apply for citizenship. But even after six years, they will be years ahead of many people who have gone through the legal process and are waiting overseas for a consular official to let them come here. Once those who have been playing by the rules all along get here, they too have to wait six years before getting in line for citizenship.

If we really mean "the back of the line," that should be behind everyone who is already in the pipeline to come here legally.

Let's be real: this bill allows those who come here illegally to gain a huge advantage over those who follow the rules. This, in effect, creates an irresistible incentive for others to ignore the rules and come here illegally. Fast track it by going illegal - there's no reason not to!

ZERO PROVISIONS TO MAKE IT ALL WORK

Lindsey has further concerns about the utter non-viability of the Senate's bill:

In 2004, the INS issued 946,000 green cards and naturalized 537,000 people. The proposed immigration reform anticipates giving green cards to up to 11 million people [likely closer to 20 million] in one fell swoop and making them eligible for citizenship six years later. It is inconceivable that the INS could handle an eleven-fold increase in its workload. Do we really intend to pass a bill that purports to document these 11 million people without setting up a system capable of providing them the promised documentation? If we don't, everyone else who is already here legally but needs a visa update, or has adopted a foreign-born child, or wants his aging mother to join him in America, will get swamped by the tsunami of newly legalized people seeking documentation.

VDare concurs and says that the guest worker program is an administrative catastrophe in the making: "Already, there are backlogs of millions of applications with CIS [Citizenship and Immigration Services] for the various immigration benefits. If any guest worker program or amnesty is enacted, the sheer amount of work in processing, receiving and vetting applications and the assorted work that goes with them (interviewing, fraud investigations, verifying documentation) will without a doubt delay any application already pending—even if additional staff are added. This includes, of course, those innocents who bothered to apply to enter the U.S. the right way." No wonder, legal immigrants are so upset with this whole thing!

I do not understand how the Senate has been so willfully blind to the will of the people and so determined to ignore the future costs of their folly:

The approved bill would send the U.S. population skyrocketing towards a billion people by the close of the century -- with no analysis done of the impacts of this mass population explosion on housing, congestion, overcrowding, education, the environment and the overall quality of life. Local communities have not been consulted, and virtually no preparation has been undertaken to provide for the enormous burdens this legislation would entail. It reflects the degree to which the Senate is completely out of touch with the average American.

Nor does the bill take any serious steps that would improve immigration enforcement -- especially in the interior. It merely continues a cycle of rewarding lawbreakers and clothing a loss of border control with the patina of legality. Rather than face the reality of today's immigration crisis, the Senate has enacted a terrible bill that once again puts the interests of the American people last. The bill's cost is staggering, the administrative burdens crushing and the consequences for the cohesion of the future American nation -- no longer bound by a common destiny of the rule of law -- are severe.

Like his colleagues, Sen. Santorum came to the immigration reform debate honestly seeking a legitimate solution to this divisive issue. However, he was clear that he would only support an immigration reform bill that doesn't provide amnesty for those who are here illegally.

Unfortunately, the bill the Senate passed is a broad amnesty program that provides incentives for illegal immigrants to raid the Social Security system and lie about their work history. It's a bill that lets illegal immigrants remain in this country, and in the immigration line, while pushing others outside of the country further back in line.

5-foot-1 man gets 10 years probation for sexual assault of a child

SIDNEY, Neb. - A judge said a 5-foot-1 man convicted of sexually assaulting a child was too small to survive in prison, and gave him 10 years of probation instead.

His crimes deserved a long sentence, District Judge Kristine Cecava said, but she worried that Richard W. Thompson, 50, would be especially imperiled by prison dangers.

"You are a sex offender, and you did it to a child," she said.

But, she said, "That doesn't make you a hunter

EXCUSE ME JUDGE? He sure as hell hunted out a child. And when did size become a consideration in the RAPE OF A CHILD?

Disaster Looms

The Senate is poised to pass S. 2611 this week, the giant amnesty bill that would change the demographics of our country and start us on the slide into rampant crime, drug culture, and third world poverty. Every thinking American is needed at this moment to phone, fax, or visit their United States Senators and oppose this legislation.

The Senators will try to convince you that this is not amnesty, just a guest worker program with provisions for a path to citizenship. Don’t be fooled. They are giving away our country to people who have not paid for it. The only legislation that makes sense, if we are to remain an educated and prosperous and freedom-loving people, is the “enforcement only” bill from the House of Representatives.

Fred Burton, a counter-terrorism expert of Stratfor, was interviewed on camera. He stated that now is the perfect time for terrorists to sneak across the border. About one in every 10 caught border jumpers is an Arab. I don't think I need to point out that if they are sneaking into the country illegally, they fit the profile and are probably terrorists. Unfortunately, we only catch about 25-33% of the flood of illegals, and estimates are that we absorb 3 million illegals (Time Magazine, September 2004 and Bear Stearns July 2005) that do make it through each year. I am a people watcher. You could find me sitting in the middle of a mall, train station, airport or on the boardwalk. I love people. I will always give those I am watching a nod, smile or a simple hello. Well, some of them.

A few weeks ago I started a new job. On most mornings I find myself pulling into the local WaWa for coffee, Newport's, the occasional donut. They have the best Kenya AA coffee!

Three times in the last week or so I have run into some rather rude language. The other day it was a couple of young children in the store with their grandmother. The guy making the donut delivery approached the grandmother and said to her "this young man is very polite and respectful, then he points to the older boy maybe about 7 or 8 and says, this one is rude, he told me to get the fuck out of his way so he could pick out which donut he wanted. The grandmother turns and says to the child "I'll kick your fucking ass, what have you been told about respect. Duh......lady..........you just explained it all.

This morning it was a "construction worker" on his Nextel. Conversation went something like this......What the fuck do you mean don't call you. You fucking told me to call you Thursday mother fucker. You fucking owe me 375.00 I want my fucking money. Now mind you this is over Nextel, not a private connection. On the other end you could hear whoever it was he was talking to, cursing just as bad and just as loud as this guy. AT first I said nothing. To be honest my husband works construction, I have heard some of his conversations with contractors or workers. But never in public like this. About two seconds into the conversation, me who can curse with the best of them, had to say something. In my best Philly brogue, I chimed in.........yohhhhhhh your mouth. He gave me a look but toned it down........well some.

Do people not have any respect for others anymore? What gives someone the opinion they can talk anyway they like in public. Do they realize not everyone accepts this behavior? Mammograms SUCK! They are also painful as a son of a bitch if your flat chested like me. OK, so I know they can save lives. Part of the test is to be able to see chest muscle. Excuse me.....but if you sucked anymore of me into that contraption, you would have to start calling me Sid. In a way I am glad I am flat, can you imagine trying to glide those rollers over a size 40 DD's?

Lent

Vivi and I had a conversation a few nights ago about lent. Both of us are faith based bad girls. Ha. But all kidding aside, we are both sure of a higher power, we choose to call GOD. We believe in Jesus, the Saints and power of prayer. Both of us have experienced our own miracles at different stages in our lives.

We were trying to think of some way we could make a difference this Lenten season. Years past for me anyway, It was a personal journey. We muled over doing a prayer request kind of thing. Then thought better of that idea, only because we both know how involved that can get. And quite frankly, neither of us have that kind of time right now.

Tonight I was reminded of a story I read some years back. During WWII there were a group of people under Churchill
who dropped what they were doing every day at a certine hour, for one minute they would collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.

Every day we search for stories to bring to this blog. Reading so much world news can kind of get depressing at times. There is so much evil and destruction going on in our world. If you really think about it all at once, it can become over bearing at times.

My thougth was this. If each one of us could take a time out, even if for a minute to pray, for peace, it just may make a difference.

This post would not even be going up if Vi and I were not sure of the power of prayer. If you choose to read this post and ignore it as a bunch of hog wash, that's fine. If you care to join us in our prayers, no need to respond. Simply do it. Lord knows nothing else seems to be working at this point. You don't have to make your request in any formal kind of way. Just a simple........hey GOD, it's me Cindi, I know you haven't heard from me in a while, BUT i AM BACK.

We hope this season of Lent brings a new life to each of you. If anyone has a special Lenten story they would like to share, please do. We love to share!

Fraud

Preston over at SMB had a phishing expedition today. He was quick enough to catch on. Here are some tips for protecting yourself from theft and fraud.

Working the years that I did in Elder Care Law, I was fortunate enough to work with the state attorney general's office here in PA. Below are standard recomendations this department makes.

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED."

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone or no phone number. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy
machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc.
You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the
account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards. After you make your copies, be sure to clear the machine, or what you copied can be duplicated.

5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

6. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction
where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.

7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations
immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks
after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves'
purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert.

Here are the numbers you always need to contact about
your wallet, etc., has been stolen:

2.) Experience (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):

I can imagine it ain't pretty. But separate courts? Give me a break. We all have our customs, beliefs, different ideas of family life. Can only imagine from my experience in law, these courts are doing a lot of ass kissing.

Attacking what he called racial and ethnic segregation, the Phoenix district attorney filed a federal lawsuit yesterday against Arizona court programs set up to provide treatment for Spanish-speaking and Indian drunken-driving offenders.

Andrew P. Thomas, the Maricopa County attorney, whose office serves the fourth-most-populous county in the nation, said the "race-based courts" violated the Constitution and federal laws barring discrimination on the basis of race or ethnicity.

The programs are not technically courts. They are probation programs that steer people to therapy and other treatment in an effort to combat alcohol addiction, though a judge may impose jail or other sanctions for people who violate the terms.

Maricopa County has three such programs, a general D.U.I. court and others for Spanish speakers and Indians, which were established several years ago. The presiding judge, Barbara Rodriguez Mundell, has defended them as important to overcome participants' language and cultural difficulties.

Storm's a brewin' -- Update Pt. II

In the first of what will likely be many test cases, the South Dakota legislature has just passed a bill banning all abortions. See the statute here.

Lyle Denniston at SCOTUSblog gives us these details:

The bill declares that "life begins at conception, a conclusion confirmed by scientific advances since the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade..." It says that, based on experience since 1973, "abortions in South Dakota should be prohibited." While it imposes a flat ban on abortion, it declares that no doctor who "performs a medical procedure designed or intended to prevent the death of a pregnant mother" is guilty of violating the ban. But it does require the doctor to make "reasonable medical efforts" under the circumstances to save the lives of both the mother and "her unborn child" in a manner "consistent with conventional medical practice."

There remain some minor differences in language between the house and senate versions, but it is assumed that something very close to this will be presented to South Dakota's republican governor, who is expected to sign it into law.

Of course this places it on a collision course with Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. The 8th Circuit will have no choice but to strike down the statute to be consistent with these Supreme Court rulings. The real battle will come in a year or two when it reaches the U.S. Supreme Court.

Still, as we have discussed before, Justice Kennedy voted with the liberals in Planned Parenthood v. Casey. In the Roberts court, Kennedy would be the swing vote. Whichever coalition he chose to join would be the majority, and he would likely write the decision himself.

In fact, Justice Kennedy is arguably the most powerful man in the world right now, in that his decisions alone will chart the course of American jurisprudence, whether to the left or the right. Somehow I don't believe the founding fathers intended that much judicial power to be invested in one individual, but here we have it.

Storm's a brewin' --Update Pt. I

As previously discussed here, a Federal Judge of the 8th Circuit struck down the Federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban as being unconstitutional. This ruling was upheld last month by a three judge panel of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

It has now been announced that the U.S. Supreme Court will indeed review the constitutionality of this decision. The case is Gonzales v. Carhart. See the petition for cert here. It looks like the case will be heard in the new term beginning in October, 2006.

This is being touted as an opportunity to reverse the 2000 decision of Stenberg v. Carhart, in which Justice O'Conner was the swing vote striking down the Federal Partial Birth Abortion Ban.

In Stenberg v. Carhart, Justice Kennedy voted to preserve the ban, along with Rehnquist, Scalia, and Thomas. It is assumed that Breyer, Ginsberg, Souter and Stevens will support the actions of the lower courts. But if Roberts and Alito join the expected bloc of Kennedy, Scalia and Thomas, the earlier decision will be reversed.

It boggles the mind that any civilized society would continue to allow this heinous, barbaric procedure for purely political reasons. It would be a step in the right direction for SCOTUS to affirm the constitutionality of what was clearly the will of the majority of the people. I only wonder how many more children will die between now and October . . .

Do Less at Work

Being self-employed as a hairstylist, I decided not to accept any new clients. I found myself taking just one more cut and working until 8:00 or 9:00 P.M. I am now able to go to the kids' practices and make dinner for my husband for a change, and I am able to relax a little more. My family definitely comes first, and it's about time I realized this.

Systemize Your Closet

I reorganized my clothes closet so that all outfits are grouped together. I am not a morning person, and I do not like standing around, naked and cold, trying to decide what to wear. I just grab the first outfit on the right side and put it on. At the end of the day, I hang the clothes up on the left side. This way, all my clothes are rotated, so I wear them all and never overwear my favorites.

I installed a small key cabinet behind the front door. Keys are hung there when we come in and picked up when we go out. It looks like there will be a fight over the Dubai Ports deal. And it looks like it will cut across party lines. Hillary Clinton agreeing with Bill Frist? Some strange bedfellows indeed. Could this be Hillary's Sister Souljah moment? Nahh. Still too early.

In a way, this is the most interesting thing to happen in Washington since Bush v. Gore. The Bush administration calls the UAE a close ally in the war on terror, and is trying to rally support. But the right wing is not buying it, and neither are many on the left. Opponents from both parties point to the fact that several of the 9/11 hijackers ran their financing through the UAE and the UAE remains one of Iran's top trading partners.

In my opinion, port security has not received the amount of attention that it deserves. What percentage of containers are actually inspected? One in twenty according to Reuters. So how difficult would it be to slip an Iranian nuke into New York harbor? Probably easier than walking it in from Mexico. Would it be any easier under Dubai Ports World than under P&O or whomever?

And now Reuters is accusing the president's opponents of bigotry! Since when does Reuters even accidentally side with Dubya?

And why is Reuters using such strong language? I mean, to accuse someone of bigotry -- tantamount to the unforgivable sin among liberals -- is harsh criticism indeed. What if the NYT follows their lead? Will they openly criticize their own beloved Senators and side with the President? Will hell freeze over next?

It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Indeed it is. Reading this response from Smantix, one of the guys from Six Meat Buffet, you know who they are. The guy's who keep thing's moving. I could not agree more. We get up, go to work, never quite sure what the day will bring. We have a job, or could loose a job. Maybe it's a bad week and we go home to bacon and eggs, or BallPark hot dogs for dinner. My car may break down, and I might be told, sorry, this part is not under warranty. The new tax for working in the township I am in may have increased 150 percent. Any of the above may tick me off for an hour or so. I will survive, I will be greatful for what I do have.

At the end of the day, no matter how bad or challenging it may have been, I know I will survive. I can find another job, deal with franks and beans, or the idiots that tick me off. I have food on the table, I can make a buck, enough to survive. I will always have family, through thick or thin, always a place to lay my hat.

I have much to be thankful for. Two daughters in college, my youngest son following this year upon graduation.

I was not handed anything in my life. Hard work is what accomplished all of this. Some my doing, some my childrens doing. Follow the rules, work hard, apply yourself. That's the American Way. My kid's could not depend on the American Negro College fund, they are not of Spanish decent, their father was a veteran, but not of a war some would be familiar with. The school of hard knocks. Hell yes it works!

You can burn my flag, knock my god in cartoon's. I love my life, my country and my GOD. I do not have to blow anything up or burn anything down to prove my success. I have a family and friends that reflect who I am. I am proud.

We now have Australia's Production of "Dateline" showing more pictures of alleged prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- A man who pleaded no contest to a sodomy charge involving a sheep says he should not have to register as a sex offender.

Jeffrey S. Haynes said the state registry is intended to keep track of people who have committed crimes against humans.

But Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge Conrad Sindt told Haynes at his sentencing hearing that once he is released from prison, he must register with the Michigan State Police Public Sex Offender Registry.

Haynes, 42, of Battle Creek, was sentenced Monday to 2 1/2 years to 20 years in prison. He entered the plea in January. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.

Feds Seize Truckload of Fake Olive Oil

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- More than a discerning palate has determined that thousands of cans of Hermes and San Giovanni brands of extra virgin olive oil weren't quite right.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested the chemical composition of the oil and found it was really less expensive soybean oil, prompting Thursday's seizure.

The U.S. Marshals Service seized 22,700 gallons of oil, imported from Italy, at a trucking company warehouse in Clifton.

"It is a whole lot of faux olive oil," said Mike Drewniak, a spokesman for U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie.

Philadelphia Bus Driver Throws Woman Off Bus

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A transit bus driver grabbed a woman by the hair, knocked her head into a pole, opened the door and tossed her into traffic after she yelled at him for missing her stop, police said.

The 52-year-old woman, who was not identified, suffered a broken shoulder.

Bus driver Mario Edney, 53, was arraigned Thursday on aggravated assault and other charges, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman. He was being held on $2,000 bail.

Edney said he had to skip the woman's stop Wednesday morning because of a detour, police said.

Transit officials intend to fire Edney, who has been suspended without pay, following a hearing, said Richard Maloney, a spokesman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

Oracle to fire about 2,000 employees

FEB. 9 6:50 P.M. ET Business software maker Oracle Corp. said Thursday that it will fire about 2,000 employees, or more than 3 percent of its work force, as it digs for bigger profits from its recent $5.85 billion takeover of Siebel Systems Inc.
Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Oracle inherited 4,700 Siebel workers in the acquisition, but most of the cuts will be concentrated among employees on the company payroll before the deal closed last week, Chief Executive Larry Ellison told analysts during a conference call.
About 90 percent of Siebel's customer support, engineering and sales staff is being retained, Ellison said.

News Flash for the Media: Muslims Don't Act Like Christians

Is it just me, or does it seem that some in the media (and many in the academy) seem genuinely surprised by scope and severity of the Muslim reaction to the now infamous cartoons? One possible reason for their suprise follows from recent history.

For decades now, the media and the academy have been allowed to vent their anti-religious bias upon the dominant religion in the West, Christianity, without stirring up much of a fuss. And why hasn't there been more of a fuss? Because on the whole, Christians will behave like Christians. Christ did not go around killing people or burning buildings. Although Christian history is full of behavior contrary to the example of Christ, those who currently claim to follow him generally eschew these behaviors.

But Islam is a totally different situation. And when Islam behaves like Islam, the liberal elite seems to be taken off guard. Why is it that the most educated among us demonstrate such naivete? More to come...

So why is it a surprise [to liberalism] when Islam behaves like Islam?

To answer that question, we must examine some of the basic assumptions that liberalism considers to be "received truth". One of these is the assumption that there is no absolute truth. Another is that religion is a private matter. These assumptions (both of which are false, by the way) together lead to the conclusion that under no circumstances is a person justified in forcing a religious truth-claim upon another person. (Why THIS absolute claim escapes the general prohibition against absolutes remains a mystery that logic is unable to penetrate. Postmoderns -- gotta love 'em.)

In any event, objections to these basic assumptions are treated as liberalism treats any other intellectual dispute: "If we disagree with you, we should dialogue. If you disagree with us, we'll ignor you."

Since assuming this position, liberalism has not been bothered much by Christianity, for example. In fact, it's been so long since liberalism allowed debate on these values that perhaps they began to believe that they had been universally accepted. But then the peaceful slumber of liberalism was rudely shattered by a people who believe in absolute truth AND public demonstration of religious belief.

But unlike Christianity, the supporters of this religion believe God wants them to take over the world and kill everyone who opposes them.

Liberalism has no answer for this. These Muslims do not want to "dialogue". They do not want European journalists to get sensitivity training. They want to convert us or kill us.

I would argue that liberalism is surprised now for the same reason that Chamberlain was surprised when Hitler invaded Poland. They both believed in their own philosophy of truth and dismissed all objectors. In the case of modern liberalism, that philosophy of truth is wrong, and now reality comes as quite a shock.

In 12 minuets he will be 39. Hard to believe. I so remember holding him while he cried, so remember making him cry so I could hold him. Yeah.........I did many years of therapy dealing with the issue.

Fact is..........today he is 39, not quite old enough to make me feel old. But old enough to know how much I admire him. Hat's off brother, we both survived the bullshit...of growing up. Update 13: Space Station Crew Toss Spacesuit Out Door

The crew of the international space station shoved an unmanned spacesuit stuffed with discarded clothing and radio equipment out the door Friday, creating a ghostly scene that resembled a cosmonaut tumbling away from the orbiting outpost.

Complete with helmet and gloves, the spacesuit floated past the Russian section of the space station, 220 miles above Earth, before rotating away feet first and beginning its orbit around the globe.

The spacesuit project, known as SuitSat-1, was the brainchild of a Russian ham radio operator. It will send several words in code for schoolchildren listening on the ground. Radio operators will be able to pick up the messages for several days by tuning into FM frequency 145.990 MHz.

MySpace Subject of Sex Assault Probe

Police in Connecticut are investigating reports of sexual assaults tied to MySpace. Seven girls between 12 and 16 may have been assaulted by men they met through the site.

Not to mention the murders that have been linked to these accounts.

The girls, ages 12 to 16, are from Middletown and say they were fondled or had consensual sex with men who turned out to be older than they claimed. None of the incidents appeared to be violent, said Middletown Police Sgt. Bill McKenna. He said it was difficult to determine the exact number of victims because some girls have been reluctant to disclose that they met their assailants online.

The social networking Web site allows users to create profiles that can include photos, personal information and even cell phone numbers. In a statement Thursday, MySpace.com said it was committed to providing a safe environment for its users. The site, which includes safety tips, also prohibits use by anyone younger than 14, though a disclaimer says the people who run the site can't always tell if users are lying about their ages.

New vaccine offers hope against H5N1

Scientist say they have produced a vaccine against the H5N1 strain of bird flu that has protected mice, using a genetic engineering technique that can be easily scaled up for stockpiling the drug to prepare for a pandemic.

Dr. Suryaprakash Sambhara of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta said it could be made much more quickly than conventional vaccines and enough doses could be produced to protect people at risk.

It is also said to be effective against newer strains of the flu and does not need an adjuvant, or additive, to bolster the immune system response.

"This vaccine can protect humans against newer viruses," Sambhara said in an interview Thursday. "Our goal is to move it forward to Phase 1 clinical trials."

Developing a vaccine that can be easily and quickly produced is the best hope of preventing millions of deaths from a flu pandemic, if one does occur. Global health officials fear the H5N1 strain of avian flu that has spread from Asia could mutate into a strain that could pass easily from person to person.

Current vaccines, which can take up to six months to produce, are made in fertilized chicken eggs. But egg-based vaccines are also not useful for stockpiling because a vaccine would have to be specific to the pandemic strain.

"This H5 adenovirus vaccine is an egg-independent and adjuvant-independent strategy," Sambhara said.

The scientists injected one group of mice with the new vaccine and another with a saline solution before infecting the animals with H5N1 viruses isolated from people in 2003 and 2004.

The scientists, whose findings are reported online by The Lancet medical journal, said that although the vaccinated mice had low or no antibodies they did not lose weight or die.

Two separate Federal Courts of Appeal issued rulings today upholding lower court decisions declaring the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act unconstitutional, because it does not contain an exception for the health of the mother. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling in California, and the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling in New York.

It should be noted that MANY pro-choice physicians have testified that this particular procedure is NEVER necessary to protect the health of the mother. Nevertheless, abortion-rights groups such as NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU find it necessary to defend this procedure, and they have been able to come up with "expert" witnesses to say that it is.

A federal judge earlier ruled the Ban to be unconstitutional in Nebraska, and this was upheld by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. The 8th Circuit decision has been appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, but the case does not appear on the docket for a couple of more months.

After what we have witnessed this week, one can appreciate the wisdom of Chief Justice Roberts in postponing consideration of this case until later in the spring. Even so, by my calculation (and barring illegal activity by Ann Coulter), there is still no risk of overturning Roe v. Wade.

The actual decision I believe they would apply would be Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), which allowed restriction of 3rd trimester abortions as long as there is an exception for the health of the mother. That judgement was written by O'Conner, Kennedy & Souter with the support of Stevens & Blackmun. In dissent were Rehnquist, White, Scalia, and Thomas. (Yes, ViVi, there will be a quiz.)

The composition of the Court has changed since 1992, but I think there are still 5 Justices who will support Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Kennedy, Souter, and Stevens are still on the Court, and Justices Ginsberg and Breyer would undoubtedly vote with them.

[Now that I think of it, when Ginsberg replaced White why didn't we hear howling about "changing the balance of the court"? Oh, yeah. Silly me. It was because shifting the court to the left is okay with the MSM, and there was no Fox News or New Media back then. ]

Senator Kennedy's demeanor suggests that he actually believes the stuff his party has been spewing, namely that the elevation to the Supreme Court of Justice Alito signals the end of democracy as we know it.

Just for a second, consider where Senator Kennedy is coming from. He came of age during the Warren Court years, when any number of rights seemed to simply spring forth from the constitution, and the relationship between the citizen and Congress was one of ever-increasing dependency.

Over the last 20 years, he's seen the expansion of the federal government come to a halt, and even retreat in some sectors. And he now faces the grim realization that a growing number of Supreme Court justices do not share the constitutional (some would say extra-constitutional) disposition of the Warren Court.

To the liberal Democrat, the Supreme Court was been the wellspring from which the modern liberal rights-based welfare state has flowed. From the perspective of red state America, this long-overdue shift seems concordant with the sentiments of the public. After all, that's why we re-elected George Bush.

But the blue states see it differently, and I think we owe them some respect. For to them it represents the death of a worldview.

At Milton High School, girls outnumber boys by almost 2 to 1 on the honor roll. In Advanced Placement classes, almost 60 percent of the students are female.
It's not that girls are smarter than boys, said Doug Anglin, a 17-year-old senior at the high school.
Girls are outperforming boys because the school system favors them, said Anglin, who has filed a federal civil rights complaint contending that his school discriminates against boys.
Among Anglin's allegations: Girls face fewer restrictions from teachers, like being able to wander the hallways without passes, and girls are rewarded for abiding by the rules, while boys' more rebellious ways are punished.
Grading on homework, which sometimes includes points for decorating a notebook, also favor girls, according to Anglin's complaint, filed last month with the US Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights.
''The system is designed to the disadvantage of males," Anglin said. ''From the elementary level, they establish a philosophy that if you sit down, follow orders, and listen to what they say, you'll do well and get good grades. Men naturally rebel against this."
An international group that examines equity in education called the complaint of discrimination against boys rare. And Milton school officials denied that girls get better treatment than boys. But the female student body president, Kelli Little, voiced support for Anglin's views.

I was just doing some Sunday evening Blog-surfing, and I continue to marvel at the amount of energy being wasted by the left.

Over at Kos, we have the constantly changing filibuster scoreboard. Talk about polishing the brass on the Titanic. They obviously have not learned the Tom Daschle lesson.

It's been so long since anything resembling open-mindedness gained entry to the Democratic party that they've forgotten how the Undecided Voter thinks.

Do they think this filibuster-bluster makes them look strong? I would argue that it just comes across as mean-spirited. The Undecided Voter probably thinks, "Clinton got Breyer and Ginsberg so why can't Bush have Roberts and Alito?" Good Question.

Then we have Digby at Hullabaloo, who thinks:

"The Republicans know very well that their future depends upon Americans continuing to see Democrats as weak and lacking in conviction. That's all they've got."

Actually, nothing could be farther from the truth. The Republicans gain new converts every time Howard Dean opens his mouth. In fact, it's in the best interest of the Republicans for the Democrats to come on strong, and tell America exactly what their convictions are. It won Bush re-election in 2004, and it keep working until they finally figure it out.

It's almost too good to be true. The Democrats are batting 1.000 when it comes to barking up the wrong tree. What's all this talk about the President exceeding his constitutional authority in eavesdropping on terrorists? The Democrats just can't conceive that the Undecided Voter is not interested in the legalese, and just gives the President the benefit of the doubt.

And they promise to keep reminding the public about the Abramoff scandal. Go right ahead! The Undecided Voter has now heard from sources liberal as well as conservative that Democrats received money, too. Anyway, the Undecided Voter is skeptical of both parties, so one party's ethical accusations against another will never gain traction.

They don't realize it, but all of this filibuster talk just comes across as more Bush-hating. Undecided voters didn't like it when the Republicans did it to Clinton, and they don't like it when the Democrats do it to Bush.

It seems that icon of moderation, Senator Barack Obama, has declared that Judge Alito's philosophy is "contrary to core American values, not just Liberal values."

I'm amazed. Somehow, Judge Alito has sneaked that anti-American philosophy right past the ABA (not known for their tolerance of right wing extremists), when they gave him their highest rating.

Also, it seems he's been able to hoodwink dozens of colleagues, many who have been liberals, as well as Governor Christine Todd Whitman, who testified in support of his nomination last week.

Then as the intellectual coup de grace, he managed to conceal his anti-American values from all 10 Republican Senators on the Judiciary Committee, leaving the heroic Democrats no option but to call for a filibuster to block his confirmation vote.

Is that what we're supposed to believe?

Senator Obama answers the question himself:

"There's one way to guarantee that the judges who are appointed to the Supreme Court are judges that reflect our values. And that's to win elections," Obama said.

Well, I have a news flash for you Senator. George Bush won the election, and now he's appointing judges that reflect the values of those who voted for him.

Last night I was in so much pain that I decided to just lay down and go to sleep. Yeah it was that bad. I have a partial torn rotor cuff. Usually the treatment is cortisone shots which are also painful, then 6 months of just taking it easy until it heals. Recently I read an article in our local Dear Dr who EVER. He claimed placing a bar of bath soap on the affected area. After several trips to the medicine cabinet last night, I had enough. At this point I was willing to try anything. And so I pulled out the Irish Spring. Within 10 minutes the pain was gone as long as I kept the soap in place. Of course this is not a cure all and I would not advise using it on anything other than joint pain. But I am here to say as a doubter........At least give it a try.

Tomorrow at 4:30pm EST a cloture vote is scheduled in the Senate. The question before the Senate is this: is Judge Samuel Alito so far outside the mainstream that his confirmation should be blocked at all costs. Senators Kerry and Kennedy think so. And the MSM is very happy to focus on their claims.

But is Judge Alito really outside the mainstream? During last week's hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Graham had this to say:

" Everybody knows you're a conservative. The question is: Are you a
mainstream conservative? Well, the question I have for my colleagues is:
Who would you ask to find out? Would you ask Senator Kennedy? Probably
not. If you asked me who a mainstream liberal is, I would be the worst
person to pick, because I do not hang out over there. "

(LAUGHTER)

"I expect that most all of us, if not all of us, will vote for you. And I
would argue that we represent from the center line to the right ditch in our
party and, if all of us vote for you, you've got to be pretty mainstream. "

"So the answer to the question, "Are you a mainstream conservative?"
will soon be known. If every Republican member of the Judiciary Committee votes for you, and you're not mainstream, that means we are not mainstream. "

For those of you who do not follow the news very closely (that would be YOU, Vivi), all ten Republicans on the committee did indeed vote for Judge Alito.

So from the perspective of Senators Kerry and Kennedy, someone like me who supports Judge Alito is a right wing extremist. But from the perspective of Senators from Specter to Graham, I'm mainstream.

The only way I can reconcile this is to admit the awful truth:

I am a Right Wing Mainstremist.

Three cheers for my youngest munchkin. He received awards for his 1st and 2nd Honor Assemblies today.

To appreciate the achievement, you have to understand that Munchkin has fairly severe dyslexia. This is his fourth year at a specialty school geared exclusively toward teaching elementary kids with dyslexia. It is one of only 2 schools like it in the country, and we are remarkably fortunate that it is merely blocks away. Munchkin was awarded these honors for reading The Winter Room, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cay, The House that Drac Built, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Redwall and The Constitution (chip off the proverbial block, he is). That's over 1,000 pages of readiing for a struggling 11 year old!!

The thought of posting this recipe entered my mind a few days ago, after I tried it myself. Haven't tested the Cowboy yet.

Remembering back to my Catholic School days, ahhhhhhh the education of nuns. We were taught that not eating meat on Fridays was in reparation of sin, and we were to take the money spent on meat and place it in an envelope for the poor pagans of the world. I still believe in fasting. What I do not believe is going to hell should I not fast.

Considering all that is going on in the Middle East, I have a feeling, prayer is most needed. So here goes my new found "Catholic Recipe for Mac and Cheese."
Along with prayers for the worldly state of affairs.

And thanks to Lone Pony for giving me the go ahead to post a recipe. Thank you darling.

Mac and Cheese (do not let me catch you using ketchup)

4 cups elbow macaroni, drained. (approximately 2 cups uncooked). Serves 6-8
2 cups grated Cheddar cheese
3 eggs, beaten (the reason I pictured the cowboy)
1/2 cup sour cream
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, cut into pieces
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk, or equivalent in evaporated milk.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. After macaroni has been boiled and drained, add Cheddar cheese while macaroni is still hot. Combine re-maining ingredients and add to macaroni mixture. Pour into casserole dish and bake for 30-35 minutes. Top with additional cheese, if desired.

And guys, if your wife is still serving you that plastic Mac and Cheese, you have to ask yourself, What else is she faking.

We the women at SubTerfuge are wives, mothers, working women. I am only two of the three listed. Hah. Our blog is fairly new, just about two months old. Between the four of us, we just might be older than your grandmother. We all met through Dan's blog. For that I am grateful. Riehl World View is an awesome blog and the ring master Dan does a terrific job.

What we found after posting day after day on RWV was we had a great deal in common. Our ideals were almost identical, how we raise our children, what we expect out of life, our spirituality and yes, our most often wicked sense of humor. Dan gave us a place to meet online, most of the time it was for light chat, a place to get away from the bullshit that often occurs in the bloggers world. We not only bonded with the women of Subterfuge, but many other people who join our chat at Dan's place. Yes, Ricky Nelson....this includes you, "The Music Man." That is how Subterfuge came to be.

Last night Vi and I were talking about the traffic our blog has received, thanks to Dan, Six Meat Buffet and a few others. The support we have found from other bloggers we came in contact with by way of posts on RWV is truly an incrediable experience. In our conversation we were talking about doing a major block buster of a post so to speak. As it turned out Vi had a lot going on today as did I. A sister in-law in the hospital with unexpected medical issues, children off to explore colleges, children in college and dealing with the financial aid issues. Basketball games, soccer games. Searching for gainful employment.......pssst.....not so sure Vi and I are exactly looking real hard. Regardless neither of us could really give much time today to making posts. It dawned on me driving home from seeing my sister in-law tonight. Our blog is a very important place in life right now, it's fun, it's exciting, waiting for the next person to make a comment, often times posting to one another with no other comments, but what the hell, at least we get a good laugh.

Last I got to talk to Vi she was off to a game with her adorable sons and soon to be the heart throb of every young girl. (She has two very handsome sons.) Watch it Vi, I like em young. I spent a few hours in the hospital with my sister in law, a very buff, physically fit young woman who developed blod clots. HATE to say it brother...snip snip. My brother was there of course.......oh and he is such a pain in the ass, but of course he takes pride in that.

The most important part, we know we are there for one another. What dawned on me driving home was this. Regardless of where life takes the women at Subterfuge, what obstacles we face, the ups and downs,family will always come first, no doubt about it. Thanks to Dan first. Most of all, thank you to the women at Subterfuge and the folks at RWV who make blogging a real life experience.

Just Vote Already: Redux Revisited

On talk radio tonight I learned that John Kerry now plans to start a filibuster to block the vote on Alito's confirmation. Like Kerry, we all know that the 40 votes needed for a successful filibuster simply are not there. So what is he up to? Certainly he must have an ulterior motive for taking an action which paints him as an extreme antagonist.

Two possibilities that I can think of: 1) Kerry is hoping to sweep support from the entire far left for the 2008 nomination, thinking realistically that the moderate left vote will be split among two or more other candidates; or 2) He is surrounded by other lunatic left fringe thinkers night and day, and he now genuinely believes that is how the average Democrat thinks as well. Nothing else makes sense.
